The Multidisciplinary Support Center, a supplementary body of the Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM), offers undergraduate and high school students the opportunity to participate in IGEM (International Genetic Engineering Machines). An international competition with local coordination of Professor Carlos Gustavo Nunes da Silva, professor of PPGBIONORTE by UFAM, and general coordination of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), United States. I-GEM is held annually and involves the design and construction of genetically engineered machines. In 2015 was the first year of participation of the UFAM group in the competition, bringing as a proposal the construction of a transgenic bacterium capable of converting lipids into electricity.
